Entrepreneur

Our oldest son worked at Wendy's for the past 15 months, he just left this weekend. They hated to see him go, they loved him, he showed up on time and did his job. They offered him a management position, but he knew the salary just wasn't worth the hours and the stress.

He has been planning on starting his own business for quite sometime now. Learning, researching, saving his money and buying equipment and products. He has finally launched it, he has only done a few jobs so far and customers are very pleased with his work.

We are just so proud of him for finding something he loves to do and to be able to make money and be his own boss. We raised them to follow their interests and passion and to be anything they want to be.

I believe that he will be successful in this because it is what he wants and he is willing to work for it.

Here is a link to his Facebook page, he will be getting a website up soon.

No school

School started here today, our  kids friends had to go back. I am just so thankful that our kids have never had to deal with back to school angst. They were home sleeping comfortably in their beds as they should be.

Childhood is too short to spend it in a classroom for 12 years. Kids grow up so fast, time flies and I wanted to spend as much time with our kids as possible.

Our oldest is 19 now and the rest are 16,14 and 12. They are not little kids anymore. They are growing up right before my eyes.

It seems like yesterday they were all babies, I just can't imagine not spending every day with them during the years that are so important for growth and development.

Little exchange

Cassie had her hair cut yesterday. This was a major transformation as she went from long and full to a pixie cut. While she was getting it done the hairdresser was full of questions. She was a very extroverted person and Cass who used to be a social butterfly is kind of quiet these days. Anyway, this is what I heard. I will use C for her and HD for the nice lady .

HD: How old are you?
C: 14
HD: What grade are you in?
C: I don't go to school.
HD? So you are homeschooled? Don't you still have a grade?
C: I am Unschooled.
HD: What is that?
C: We don't do school.
HD: Well what do you do?
C: Whatever we want.

I giggled under my breath and spoke up saying it's a natural approach to learning. We follow the child's interest.

HD: (Typical response) All my kids are interested in are video games.

Me still smiling... We have done this all their lives.

We briefly exchanged a bit more, but I really loved Cassie's answers :)

No coaching from me.

Although it reminded me of a time when Jared was like 6 and the dad of a kid he met in the neighborhood asked him what grade he was in and he said he doesn't go to prison...Ha ha, I loved it, but started to watch what I was saying.. Yeah right, if you know me...

I love my kids, they are so awesome.

Always Unschooled and smart as a whip!

I'll stop here, I could go on a rant, but this was just about Cass and the HD :)

Kids grow up too fast

Today is Jared's 9th birthday. He was my last baby. We actually thought we were done after 3 kids and were planning on making that official and then I get bit by the baby bug.

You know the baby bug? Every time I saw a baby I got all emotional, I needed another baby...

So Jason saw this reaction keep happening and I told him I wanted another baby and he said OK!

Jared is such a bundle of intense energy. He has caused me to be a better, patient, understanding parent.

I have been his partner all his life, I have run intereference and helped him handle situations that other kids may not have a problem with. We would only go to Jared friendly places so he could be himself.

He was very different from my other babies right from the start. He used to scream from 1-4am the first few weeks of his life....

His perspective is different, he is intense and he thinks deeply and feels deeply.  He is  awesome, talented, artistic, has a photographic memory and can be very focused or get very frustrated.

I love this little boy more than I can express here!

Happy Birthday dear Jared!  I'm so thankful you were born!

Next month my oldest turns 16...WOW!

Enjoy your babies because you blink and they aren't babies anymore!

Real money

Our kids are doing great at saving their money in order to buy something.

Kieran saved up and bought his own computer. He did all of the research and picked all the parts and assembled it at home with his dad.

All three boys have been saving for an XBOX 360 since Christmas. They just got it this week along with a few games and another controller and flash drive for extra memory.

They all still have money left.

We are trying to instill good money habits with our kids. We don't want them in debt like we are. We have learned our lesson about credit cards the hard way.  Jason and I weren't taught to save, we were taught to establish credit....

Kieran works with Jason and earns money and now has his own bank account. The other kids have saved money from Holidays and Birthdays so far.

We are providing the example of a good work ethic and to save and pay cash because then it is yours, you own it!

Kieran's computer is awesome and he did it all and now the boys finally have a new game system.

Lights Out

We had strong storms blow through here last night and some tornadoes in the area. We lost our power but that is all and I'm so thankful for that.

The kids were like what are we supposed to do? I'm bored. I can't play nintendo, watch a movie or get on the computer...

We lit some candles and hung out in the living room. They were goofing off, joking, playing around, talking.

Then they started reading books, kind of hard by candle...Except Brennan, he was the most bored and didn't want to look at a book.

They said they are so glad we aren't Amish, they would hate to be without power all the time.

We had no music, then Brenny grabbed his MP3 player, it only has 5 songs on it. So everyone wanted a turn listening, he actually charged Cassie .75 and she paid him...Oh gosh it was just so funny, but I guess you had to be there...

Then I went and dug up a Mad Libs and we did a few of those.

Next thing we knew it was 2 am and we all headed to our rooms to try and sleep.

Yes!

Ok!
Oil of Oregano Rocks!

My immune system is so much better! A couple years ago this virus would've kicked my ass for two weeks, instead two days!

My vitamin D levels must be improving! They were dangerously low 2 years ago and still low last July. That explains my long illnesses.

I was feeling like serious shit yesterday. I took 3 doses of Oil of Oregano 3 times for two days.
I'm feeling so much better!

I'm just tired and stuffed up, everything else is gone.
yeah we'll see what I  feel like in the morning!

Just had a long talk with Cassie, all sorts of questions...

Spanning from, Easter, God, dinosaurs, Jesus, big bang, monkeys, Mary, immaculate conception, Joseph, the cross,Adam and Eve, what do you believe, how do we know what is real,  faith...holy shit we covered a lot of ground!

I answered my best and talked about how glad I am that she has these questions and how I want her to form her own opinion and beliefs.

Cassie and I had an awesome conversation!

Life Rocks!
Keep it Real...
Jared is working on his gear for  his BMX outfit...

Cooking

Kieran has been cooking and baking quite often lately.

He has a real knack for it.

He enjoys it and he is very good at it.

It's great to have someone in the house that can cook and wants to cook :)

Counter

What's on you bathroom counter?

It was hard to get it all in one shot. Lots of bowls of dyed water, all special colors.

See that pan and Karo syrup?

That is a tar pit and that little action figure was stuck in it.

All sorts of stuff goes on in the bathroom...

Spanking IS abuse!

So there has been child abuse awareness going on around facebook lately.

My friend posted a quote that I have seen and posted before and it sparked some comments :

‎"When a child hits a child, we call it aggression. When a child hits an adult, we call it hostility. When an adult hits an adult, we call it assault. When an adult hits a child, we call it discipline." ~Haim G. Ginott

In reality when an adult hits a child it is assault, it is abuse!

People justify hitting children in many ways but it is completely UNACCEPTABLE!

Do you realize the damage you are doing to that child?

Do not tell me it is fine to swat a toddler in a diaper. There is no justifiable reason to spank a toddler.

I love this one:
If a child hits another child, the parent teaches them that hitting is wrong by spanking them!

I would love to slap these parents and see how they like it!

Hitting, spanking, whipping, whopping, swatting, call it what you want, it IS abuse!

So yes I am calling all of those loving parents who spank their kids abusers.
Deal with it!
Step up, get help, seek alternatives.
Kids do not deserve to be hit by people who claim to love them.

Get real, be real, be honest, control yourself, stop the cycle!

Do not tell me you spank aka discipline your child out of love, you are delusional!

If you were spanked, you are damaged, it is not right, it is not good, it is not healthy.
Think about it, really reflect on your experience being humiliated and beaten...Do you want to do that to your children? Do you want them to beat your grandchildren?

Yes I use the word beat interchangeably, think about it!

God is not telling you to beat your kids, trust me!

Do not hit your kids, STOP hitting your kids!

Please, their mental, physical and emotional development depends on it.

Imaginary friend

Jared has an imaginary friend named Bobert, he is always talking about things Bobert does.

Today he said that God doesn't want Bobert and either does the devil so he will live forever. I just thought it was cute.

Here is part of a cartoon he drew, there are several pics but I'm just posting these two.

Childhood

Childhood is not a preparation for life...childhood is life.

When I think back on my childhood, I didn't really have much of one, I really wasn't a kid very long and I surly didn't enjoy being a kid. I couldn't wait to turn 18 to get out of my parents rule.

My circumstances were different than many and maybe similar to some. After my parents divorce I took care of my brother and sister and the household duties while my mom worked two jobs. I was 12.

This wasn't going to be about that so I won't go into any details at this point.

What I really want for my kids is for them to ENJOY being kids. I want them to live and learn everyday without the stress of adulthood looming.

So many kids are pressured each day to perform, to get good grades, listen, obey, respect authority etc...

To prepare for their future job and mortgage.

Kids today aren't able to just BE.

My kids have never been to school and have always had the freedom at home to follow their interests and to learn in their own way and in their own time.

They are growing up right before my eyes.

Jared's opinion

We went to Publix last night and they were giving out balloons and candy.

On the way home Jared was reading the warning label on the balloon. It said "Choking Hazard, children 8 and under can choke or suffocate on balloons" Adult supervision needed etc...

Jared is 8, he was beside himself.
He said mom, that is stupid, kids my age and 6 or 7 should know better that to stick a balloon in their mouth.

He said that should be a warning for 3 and under.

He was insulted to say the least. He talked about it for a bit.
