To mommy

Cassie made this for me last night, she usually draws elephants for me. I guess she felt like a little addition instead.

My other kids don't do stuff like this but she loves numbers, last week she was working on multiplication.

Never been schooled...

Math?

This is from Cassie's wall. Who says unschoolers don't do math? LOL!
She has added to it a few times and I had to get a picture before she washes it off, I found her with the simple green the other day.

She has drawn a few things on her walls and the neighbor told her that she was gonna get a whoopin and that God doesn't like it if you write on the walls.

I just couldn't be quiet on that one, I told her that God doesn't care if you write on the wall and that nobody ever should get a whoopin.

More lies and fear put on kids to make them comply, sad really. What happened to truth and dialogue???

I told Cassie that it was ok to write on the walls because we haven't painted in there yet. We bought this house two years ago and the whole place needed to be redone and it is a work in progress. When we do paint, we plan to make an area with chalkboard paint so they can still draw on the wall without causing any damage.

Kids say...math

Tonight Cassie and I were playing Rummy, we don't usually keep score because she is still getting the hang of it. We have played on and off for a few months, she does really good.

She wanted to keep score tonight, so she was writing down the numbers and I showed her how to line up the columns. She has added like this before but she forgot because it's been awhile. Anyway, I asked her what the amounts were and showed her where to write them.

She has been playing with a couple girls that live down the road this week. She said that sometimes they play math games, I asked her what she meant.

She said you know like 1+1+=2 and 3+3=6. Then she goes, mom they don't even know what 100+100 is, because they go to school, they don't learn anything at school.

I just giggled and said well...just make sure you don't tell them that.

Target practice

Kieran has decided to start shooting his gun again. He got this for his birthday and hasn't shot it in a few months. He is shooting at soda cans and he keeps track of hits and misses and writes down his percentages.
