A few thoughts...

In light of last week's events a lot of people are airing their opinions on guns. What about the cause of what makes someone go on a killing spree. Clearly this person was mentally ill . I believe a lot of these shootings could be avoided. I do not have a lot of knowledge on the situation but the question I have is, Why does this keep happening? Why are people snapping and shooting in schools and malls and any public place they feel like it?

I do not believe that gun control is the issue. No matter what the laws are if someone wants to get a gun, they can get a gun, it's not that hard to obtain one illegally. All more laws will do is punish the law abiding citizens.

Then take school, why shoot up kids? Aren't they supposed to be safe at school? I think not, even though schools are prison like and some have more security than others, it is not a safe place for children. You know I have never sent my kids to school, I did not have kids to send them away. I'm not saying you did but I don't think very many people give it a second thought. Many just believe it's part of life, you go to school. Well I believe the opposite, it is an unnecessary part of so many lives. I have nothing good to say about school.

More importantly our children are only young once, every milestone they reach I want to be there, I don't want to hear about it second hand. Schools cause division in the family. I have written about this so many times I feel like a broken record.

I don't have the answers, I wish more of these troubled kids got the help they needed. There is so much turmoil in their lives, bullying, cutting, suicide...

Why?

Preparing for what?

Why is there so much emphasis on taking specific classes in high school and passing certain tests? I'm talking about public school and traditional homeschooler's that do the same thing as schools.What is done in high school doesn't have much bearing on college or one's future. Who cares what classes you took as a teenager? If/when you go to college you take their entrance exam and then you take their classes.

I don't see the correlation of high school preparing one for college or better yet, real life. I think time would be much better spent following one's interests and learning about what is really important to them. Time should be spent thinking and exploring. Time spent alone or with others. Time spent working and earning their own money. Time spent to really figure out what they want to do with their life.

Nothing magic happens at 18 that suddenly makes you know what you want to do. What does happen at 18 is that society deems you an adult, period.

Some know what they want to do with their life from an early age and they pursue it. Many kids don't know, they are forced to pick a major and follow a career path. I did it, I had focused goals, but guess what? People change, plans change, life happens as you live it. What I had planned on way back when I was 18, never happened, my life took a complete turn in another direction.

So have some goals, make some loose plans because nothing is written in stone.

Why spend years taking classes when you won't remember most of it anyway? I do believe it's all just busywork to keep kids occupied until they are adults and the school system doesn't have to worry about them anymore.

They need to be doing real things in real life, not busywork in an artificial environment that will never be replicated in life.

Anti-School

I've been seeing it around the web lately that we shouldn't be anti-school. We shouldn't be out talking against school.

I am anti-school, I will not apologize for that. I know why schools were started and they are outdated and useless, IMO.

Schools are not necessary for learning. They are a place to herd children while parents work or a place for those few neglected children to get a hot meal and safety from their abusive parents.

I do not see value in school, never have, I went to school from preschool through 2 years of college.

If homeschoolers want to get their panties in a wad because I don't like school, oh well.

I promote partnership parenting and unschooling. If I happen to diss the system that is my prerogative.

My main goal when sharing on here or facebook or wherever is to show what the purpose of school is and to show there are alternatives to school. Many people have never even given a thought to NOT sending their kids. It's automatic, it's normal, it's what society expects one to do. When more people wake up and opt out and make different choices then maybe we can actually change the system.


I'm not against having a place for kids to go because I know that most people won't home educate. The compulsory institution just isn't it.

Jared's opinion

We went to Publix last night and they were giving out balloons and candy.

On the way home Jared was reading the warning label on the balloon. It said "Choking Hazard, children 8 and under can choke or suffocate on balloons" Adult supervision needed etc...

Jared is 8, he was beside himself.
He said mom, that is stupid, kids my age and 6 or 7 should know better that to stick a balloon in their mouth.

He said that should be a warning for 3 and under.

He was insulted to say the least. He talked about it for a bit.

They just got an inkling of my view on government and thought I would appreciate the movie.

Oh my gosh!

This is not my usual movie, I mean I like comedy/drama type stuff I'm not usually into this,but I totally loved it.

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

My political views have been expressed briefly and are in my politics folder.

I admit to being tame, I didn't want to offend anyone.

Guess what?

I'm so sick of political correctness, I'm sick of people being offended by every turn, I'm sick of walking on eggshells. I may not ever write publically how I really feel about the Obamanation. I will continue to write about living and learning and my view of it all.

Trust me, I have kept many of my real opinions quiet...

If anyone is offended by anything I say then they don't know me, they aren't ready to know me.


If I offend you then go shift your paradigm and come back and see me.

I found it! Political nature

I found my birth certificate and my voter registration card!!! I only had to dig in my closet a little bit :) Of course I still need to actually go to the TN DMV with my proof of birth(like I'm not real) and my 2 forms of residence and my social security card and my PA license... to actually get my TN license. I can vote in the primary, I registered to vote in Oct 06, you don't need a TN license to register to vote, scary huh???

This post is a hodgepodge, I have had so many thoughts swirling through my head I hope I can get a few down. I want to thank all of you who have left comments, I appreciate you more than you know. It's also really good to know that unloading dirty dishes isn't that uncommon, LOL!
Sometimes I write and don't get any comments and I think I must have offended someone or did not relate to anyone.

I still have the business of deciding who to vote for. I really have never delved too much into politics but this election has me learning and researching.

If anyone wants to discuss issues I am open... to a point. I will not vote for a socialist. BUT I still love you bloggers who lean liberal, I mean you unschool and I read what you write :) I will not be swayed in that direction.

I am actually a Libertarian, I want very little government, I do not want to lose any more civil liberties. Our freedoms have been stripped so gradually, it is ridiculous, there are many republicans used to the handouts now. Oh the government will take care of me, I'm entitled. Bullshit!!! We have not had health insurance for at least 4 years now, we can't afford it. We barely survive on one income BUT I do not want the government giving me hand outs. We can help each other, we can help ourselves, we have the power within us for greatness. NO more dumbing down, no more public schooling, no more entitlements, get off your ass and do something.

Not that it really matters but my mom was a single mom who worked two jobs to support 3 kids. I heard some comment the other day maybe Huckabee said it about appealing to the single moms. My mother did everything in her power to keep us off of welfare, we did need it for a short period of time but that is what it is designed for, a stepping stone. Anyway my mom has never voted liberal to my knowledge. My dad on the other hand is as liberal as they come :)

I am all for abolishing the IRS and the NEA, lets get rid of the ACLU too. I don't believe in speed limits or drinking ages, am I scaring you now??? I think that schools should be like libraries, I believe that people should be responsible for their own actions.


The Government has no right to tell me how to educate my kids or tell me which lightbulbs to use or to take away my right to buy health supplements... Just to name a few. There are many issues these days that should not be federal issues such as abortion, health care and education. I will not vote for the RINO's (republican in name only) either... That leaves two candidates and I keep learning what I can about them and will continue to educate myself.

I hope that everyone is educating themselves and not just believing one source for anything.
This is who I am, I do not take anything at face value, I will find out the truth I will not be swayed otherwise.

I'm tired.

Thinking...coming to conclusions

Yesterday Kieran and I were talking and he told me about this email he got about a movie coming out that was *anti-Christ*

I knew immediately what he was talking about because it was all over the yahoo groups and my personal email. I don't want to give the guy anymore free press, he got plenty by getting some uptight fundamentalists panties in a wad.

This led to us talking about thinking for ourselves and reaching our own conclusions. We talked about how it's good to ask others what they think about it and do the research ourselves.

I told him that asking me is a great start, and asking his dad, and go from there. I told him that I have very strong opinions on some things(surprise) and other things don't matter to me as much.

I also told him that as he grows and forms his own opinions whether political or otherwise, we won't always agree. I wanted him to know it's ok to disagree with me and it's good if we can discuss our differences and why we believe something.

I do not take anything at face value especially email hype about a book or movie.

It is so important to think for ourselves and know how to learn in order to make decisions based on facts not hype or popular opinion.
